The September Builds
9th of 12th Little Christmas Builds
Early this year, I bought myself a box containing 12 little Christmas builds — one for each month of the year. At the time, I simply thought they were cute. I didn't realise I was also buying myself a little monthly ritual. Now it's September, and I've discovered how much I enjoy these tiny builds.
Once a month, I open one little box, empty all those ridiculously small pieces onto the table, unfold the instructions and spend about an hour figuring out what goes where. And for that one hour, that's all I'm doing. No rushing. No emails. No thinking about what I need to do next. Just me, a pile of tiny bricks and the occasional “Eh? Where does THIS piece go?” 😂
There's something strangely satisfying about watching it slowly take shape. At first it looks like absolutely nothing — then bit by bit, suddenly there's a little Christmas creation sitting in front of me. I've started looking forward to it every month.
Not because it's anything grand or particularly important. Maybe that's exactly why I like it. It's just an hour of quiet play.
As adults, I think we sometimes forget that we're allowed to do things simply because they're fun. They don't have to improve us, make money, achieve something or be useful. Sometimes, it's perfectly enough to sit down and build a tiny Christmas bird. 😆
Nine months in now, and my little Christmas collection is growing. I'm already looking forward to opening the next box — and even more to December, when all 12 will finally come together as a complete set.
Funny how something so small can become something you genuinely look forward to. ❤️
One little build. One quiet hour. Once a month.
