An Ordinary Walk, With a Little Bit of Magic

We went out for a walk. Nothing special planned. No grand destination. Just one of those evenings when we wanted to get outside, move my legs and see where the walk took us. And then the sun decided to put on a show.

It was this beautiful glowing orange ball in the hazy sky — the kind of sun that makes ua stop walking, take out our phone and try to capture it from different angles. Of course, one photo is never enough. 😂

Through the trees, between buildings, framed by palm leaves… somehow the same sun looks completely different depending on where you're standing.

So I walked. Stopped. Took a photo. Walked some more.

And then came another little surprise.

Up in the trees were Black-naped Orioles — that unmistakable flash of brilliant yellow amongst all the green. I stopped again.

It was sitting , completely occupied with with itself when humans aren't invited. 😂

It wasn't some extraordinary wildlife encounter. Just rare visitors from a faraway land. It was simply there, going about it’s evening while we were going about ours.

But we think that's what made us enjoy the moment so much.

I'm beginning to realise that some of my favourite walks aren't necessarily the longest ones or the ones with the best statistics.

They're the ones where I come home remembering something I saw.

A ridiculously orange sun.

A yellow bird in a tree.

A view I've probably passed many times before but happened to really notice that day.

These are such ordinary things. But perhaps ordinary doesn't mean boring.

Sometimes we are so busy looking ahead — at where we're going, what we're doing next, what needs to be completed — that we forget there is quite a lot happening around us right now. Walking seems to be teaching me to notice more of it. And I rather like that.

Just another evening walk. A sunset, a little yellow bird, and a reminder to keep looking around.

Sometimes that's more than enough. ❤️
