Some walks are about the distance. Some are about the destination. And then there are walks like this one — where the nicest part is simply noticing what is around me.
Adrian and I set off for another walk and, somewhere along those 6.5 km, found ourselves stopping to look at things we might normally pass without a second thought. Fruits hanging heavily from a tree. Little splashes of colour among the greenery. Familiar neighbourhoods looking slightly different when explored on foot. Nothing spectacular happened. And perhaps that was exactly what made it lovely.
For 1 hour and 51 minutes, there was nowhere we needed to rush to. We could walk, look around, take a photo when something caught my eye, and then carry on. We started walking more because we wanted to become fitter and stronger, especially with the Camino ahead. But we are beginning to realise that these walks are giving me something else too. They make me slow down enough to notice ordinary things again.
At the end, the little yellow line on our Relive map showed 6.5 km travelled. On a map, it's simply a route from one place to another.
But for us, every little line represents time spent outside, another bit of strength built, another step towards something bigger — and a reminder that the journey doesn't only matter when we finally reach the destination.
Step by Step. At my own pace. ❤️
