A Walk … … with an Unexpected Intermission

Last night’s forecast predicted thunderstorms from 7am onwards.

I almost let the forecast decide my morning, but instead i made a simple agreement with myself. If it wasn’t raining when I woke up, I would go.

So I did!

About fifteen minutes into the walk, the wind started picking up. By the 2km mark, the rain finally arrived. Thankfully, I chosen a route with bus stops nearby, so I jumped on a bus and called it a day.

Or so I thought.

Halfway through the bus ride, the rain stopped.

I looked outside, smiled, go off the bus, and continued walking for another 1.54km.

It turned into a two-part walk with an unexpected intermission.

It made me realise that we often think progress has to be one uninterrupted journey. But life does not work that way! Sometimes we pause. Sometimes circumstances force us to change course. Sometimes we literally take a bus.

The important part is not whether the journey was perfectly continuous. It is that we chose to continue when we could.

Today’s walk reminded me that flexibility is not giving up. It is knowing when to pause … … and when it is time to start walking again.
