Step by Step : Showing Up Anyway
Today was a work-from-home day.
As usual, I woke up expecting Oreo to be waiting excitedly for his morning routine. Instead, I found him curled up comfortably, giving me the unmistakeable look that said “Not today, human.”
Fair enough.
For a split second, I considered crawling back into bed too. It would have been the easier choice. But I had already changed into my walking clothes, so I decided to head out alone.
4.4km later, I was reminded that motivation is unreliable. Sometimes it’s Oreo dragging me out the door. Sometimes it is beautiful weather. Sometimes it is absolutely nothing. Those are the days discipline quietly takes over.
The walk was not particularly exciting. No breathtaking views. No grand adventure. Just peaceful streets, fresh morning air, and the rhythm of putting one foot in front of the other.
Funny how the smallest decisions can quietly shape the day. Choosing to walk instead of going back to bed gave me a clearer mind before work even started.
I suppose that is why I have grown to enjoy these walks so much. They are less about exercise now and more about keeping a promise to myself. Even when my walking buddy decides sleeping is the better option.
Today’s walk: 4.4km
Step by step. Some days with Oreo. Some days alone. Either way, the journey continues.
