Pounds to Power : The 4.7km That Meant More Than Distance

Yesterday after work, Serene, Adrian and I headed out for a 4.7m walk.

If someone had told me years ago that I would willingly go for a long walk after a full day in the office, I probably would have laughed.

But something has changed.

I have stopped looking for quick fixes and started focusing on consistency.

My health journey has taken a few unexpected turns over the past year. There was my liver hospitalization, medical follow-ups, frozen shoulder, changes to my blood pressure mediation, and more recently, a thyroid nodule that reminded me once again that health is something we should never take for granted.

None of these experiences made me give up. Instead, they changed the question I ask myself.

Instead of asking, “how do I lose weight quickly?” I now ask, “What choices can I make today that my future self will thank me for?”

Yesterday’s answer was simple: walk.

Not because 4.7km is extraordinary.

Not because I burned a huge number of calories.

But because every walk strengthens my heart, improves my fitness, clears my mind, and brings me one steps closer to the healthier retirement I dream about.

I am also training for my Camino in 2027. Every kilometre I walk today is helping me prepare for that journey, one step at a time.
I have learnt that health is not transformed by one perfect workout or one perfect meal.

It is built through ordinary decisions, repeated consistently.

One healthy meal.

One swim.

One Pilates class.

One evening walk.

One pound at a time.

That’s why this journey is called Pounds2Power. Not because it is only about the number on the scale but because every small decision compounds over tie.

I do not know exactly what the scale will say next month.

But I do know this: yesterday, I chose movement over excuses.

And that’s a win worth celebrating.
