Every Walk Teaches a Lesson

Today's Camino training covered 5.9 km, and it turned out to be one of the most educational walks we've had so far.

I wore my trusted ASICS Gel Kayano 29, expecting another comfortable walk. Instead, after a few km, my feet started feeling squeezed. The shoes became so snug that every step was becoming uncomfortable.

In the end, I had no choice but to change into my casual sneakers. They weren't designed for long-distance walking, but they were more comfortable than continuing in shoes that no longer fit my swollen feet.

It was a timely reminder that our feet change during long walks. They swell, they tire, and what feels perfect at the beginning may not feel the same several km later.

Since our feet had already worked hard, we decided not to push through just for the sake of completing the route. We caught a bus from Lavender to Owen Road instead.

The day ended with something we all agreed was well deserved — a 60-minute foot massage. As the therapist worked on our feet, I realised just how much tension they had been carrying. Muscles I didn't even know were sore slowly began to relax.

It was a reminder that recovery is just as important as training.
