More Than Just a Trip to the Cobbler

This evening began with a simple plan.

I met my better half at Pasir Ris MRT station, and together we headed to the cobbler to repair his well-worn walking shoes. It wasn’t anything exciting - just one of those everyday errands that most people would rush through before heading home.

But instead of calling it a night, we decided to go for a walk.

As we wandered through the neighbourhood, the sky slowly darkened and a bright moon emerged from behind the trees. Every now and then, I would look up and catch it peeking through the branches, quietly lighting our path.

It made me smile.

There’s something symbolic about repairing a pair of walking shoes. Shoes carry us through countless journeys. They witness our victories, our setbacks, our ordinary days and unforgettable adventures. Fixing them isn’t just about repairing leather or stitching - it’s about preparing them for the miles still to come.

Perhaps we’re not so different.

Life leaves its marks on us too. We become a little worn around the edges, but with care, rest, and a willingness to keep moving forward, we are ready for the next journey.

Tonight’s walk wasn’t about reaching a fitness goal or chasing a personal best.

It was about appreciating an ordinary evening that quietly became memorable.

A trip to the cobbler.

A leisurely 3.2km walk.

Good company.

And a moon that reminded me to look up every once in a while.

Sometimes, life’s most meaningful moments aren’t found in grand adventures.

Sometimes, they begin with fixing a pair of shoes.
