Rain Changed the Route, Not the Journey

This morning started like many others - with walking shoes o and no particular agenda except to enjoy the morning.

Then, halfway through our walk, the rain arrived.

Not a light drizzle … … one of those proper tropical downpours that reminds you who is really in charge.

Thankfully Singapore’s newer housing estates are wonderfully connected with sheltered walkways. We laughed, adjusted our route, and made our way to a nearby kopitiam.

Breakfast wasn’t part of the original plan. Neither was sitting there, watching the rain while sipping a hot drinks. Yet somehow, it felt exactly right.

When the rain finally eased, we contiuned walking. Soon, the city gave way to greenery. The water flowing stronger in canal after the rain, the forest trail looked fresher, and everything seemed quieter. By the time we reached home, we had covered 7.6km.

The walk reminded me of something simple. Life rarely follows the route we planned.

Sometimes we need to pause.

Sometimes we take shelter.

Sometimes we enjoy an unexpected breakfast before carrying on.

What’s important isn’t sticking rigidly to the original plan. It’s continuing the journey when the rain stops. And today, that’s exactly what we did.

The rain changed our route, not our destination.
