Simply Showing Up
Last week wasn’t exactly how I imagined it.
A call from the polyclinic sent me to Changi General Hospital Emergency because of an unexpectedly high potassium result. Just as that settled, I was hit by a cold, cough and fever. Needless to say exercise wasn’t high on my priority list.
Yesterday morning, I finally felt well enough to head out for a gentle walk.
Not a power walk.
Not a training session.
Just … … a walk.
As I stepped outside, the neighbourhood was quiet. The Singapore flag fluttered gently in the morning breeze, the sunrise painted the clouds in soft shades of gold, and the blue sky reminded me that every day offers a fresh start.
It struck me that my weight loss journey isn’t measured only by kilograms lost.
It is measured by the choices I make after life’s interruptions.
There was a time when getting sick would have been an excuse to stop altogether. This time, I simply pressed pause, recovered, and resumed when my body was ready.
That feels like progress.
I am still learning to eat better. I am trying to be more disciplined with my walks and gym sessions. Some weeks will be better than others, and that’s okay.
This journey is not about perfection. It is about consistency.
One walk.
One healthy meal.
One better choice.
Pound by pound, these small moments add up.
And perhaps that’s the biggest lesson I have learnt this year : Health is not built in one spectacular workout. It is built in the quiet decisions we make every single day.
Here’s to many more gentle walks … and to never underestimating the power of simply showing up!
