The Little Things Along with Sunset
Some days, a walk doesn't need to be long.
Today, I headed out for a short evening walk around Marina Bay after work. This one was only 2.6km, but as I've been learning with all these walks, distance isn't always the most interesting part. Sometimes it's what I notice along the way.
A Merlion peeking out from amongst the trees.
Tiny white flowers growing quietly by the path.
And that beautiful orange sun hanging in the evening sky.
I think walking has made me notice these little things more.
When I'm rushing from one place to another, they're so easy to miss. But when I'm on foot, somehow I look around more. I stop. I take a photo. I wonder what that flower is. I look up at the sky. And perhaps that's another part of my Camino preparation that can't really be measured in kilometres.
Of course, the legs are still getting their training.π This little walk took me 1 hour 9 minutes, with 253m of elevation gain. My calculated average pace was around 26:32/km, although with all my stopping, looking and photo-taking, I don't think we're going to call this a speed-training session. π€£
But that's perfectly fine. I'm not training to race across Spain. I'm training so that when I finally get there, I can walk comfortably, look around, enjoy what's in front of me and hopefully notice all those little things along the Camino that I might otherwise have walked straight past.
So this evening was just 2.6km.
A short walk.
A lovely sunset.
A few things that made me stop and look.
And another few steps towards Santiago. ππͺπΈβ€οΈ
Step by step. At my own pace.
